Interview: Alex Trochut
Aanstaande vrijdag begint Don't Believe The Type in het Haagse Ship of Fools.
Hi Alex, could you tell a bit about yourself?
I’m a graphic designer and Illustrator born and rised in Barcelona.
Your work is all about typography and illustration, was that combination always the case?
I always liked fantasy typography, altought when I was studing in the late 90’s that wasn’t something you could say and be proud of, but I always liked the abstraction of shapes into letters more than looking for the best and most efficient way to read them. Little by little illustration become the ingredient than made type and lettering go to a more complex and visual level, and I like to stay there and try to explore that territory.

What is your lecture going to be about?
I going to be about process of work and, basically case studies.
Don’t Believe The Type is about the love of typography that brings artists and designers together. What sparked your love for typography?
I think is the fact that typography allows infinite visual representations, focusing on only one subjetc, letters.
Also the fact of its inherent duality, the image and the text, and how the both play together into one.

You did a lot of different stuff, is there something you like to do but haven’t done yet?
Oh yes! so many things, the regular day live doesn’t allow you to evolve and try the half of things you want to try and experiment, photgraphy, video, 3d, scupture, painting, I feel like I’m in a pixel and vector jail…

Any last words?
May the type be with you.
